Hi, Orchestra Families!
S&E is now in our rearview mirror (for most of us! A few are performing at Madison East on 2/17, Mt. Horeb on 2/24, Waunakee on 3/2, Verona on 3/9, or Monona Grove on 3/12) and we can talk about a few other calendar events.
1) Our Concerto Showcase Concert is coming up on Thursday 2/29 at 7:30 pm.
-- Regular concert attire
-- Students arrive in time for a 6:45 warm-up together on stage
-- Music includes:
Swamp Thang
Wired
Allegretto from Beethoven Symphony No.7
Fire in the Forge
Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni
Introduction & Rondo Capriccioso by Saint-Saens with violin soloist Indre Raghavan
Clarinet Concerto No.1, Mvt 1 by Weber with clarinet soloist Joseph Lee
Concerto for 2 Cellos by Vivaldi with cello soloists Juliette Mandelbrot & Eunice Chung
Piano Concerto No.2, Mvt 1 by Saint-Saens with piano soloist Ethan Bo
William Tell Overture by Rossini
2) The Cardinal & Sinfonia are performing at the WI Capitol Building at noon on Tuesday 3/5.
-- Attire is the blue orchestra shirt
-- We rehearse together during Block 1 that day
-- At 10 am we will board buses for the Capitol, offload our instruments and then walk over to eat lunch at Ian's Pizza
-- We'll head back over, set up, tune, and warm up for a noon-ish performance
-- Afterward, we will take a group photo with our local representatives (MHS Alum Rep. Alex Joers and former MHS BOE member Sen. Dianne Hesselbein) and then return to MHS
-- Cost is only the food you might buy at Ian's, and I can help out with students in need.
PERMISSION SLIPS COMING NEXT WEEK!
3) We have a new fundraiser event coming up!
SWEET SOUNDS will take place at MHS on Friday 3/15 5-7 pm. String musicians grades 6-12 will perform in large and small ensembles and the Orchestra Boosters will sell desserts and hot drinks, along with t-shirts and mugs. More information is coming soon--please put this fun night on your calendar!
4) In association with MHS Fine Arts Week 2024 and the Orchestra Boosters, the British string quartet String Fever will be performing on Wednesday 3/20 at 7 pm in the PAC.
-- They will perform for MHS classes during the day
-- During our ASR, they will present a clinic with all MHS Orchestra students, who will learn a tune with String Fever
-- That evening, at the ticketed concert, our students will join them on stage for that one song.
More coming soon!
Thanks for supporting your MHS Orchestra students!
