3/8/22 March Concert Updates & Fundraisers

Hello, Orchestra families!

MARCH CONCERTS:

  • On FRIDAY 3/11 the Luther College Symphony will perform a concert in the MHS PAC. It is a free event and starts at 7:00pm.

    • The MHS Symphony Orchestra opens their concert with a performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No.3.

    • As a fun preview, HERE is a video of us performing the Richard Meyer Ghosts of Brandenburg yesterday in class. It contains themes from all 6 Brandenburg concertos, woven together with music from No.3.

    • MHS SO students should wear all black for the performance and arrive by 6:30.

  • Originally we had an event for Cardinal and Sinfonia on Tues 3/15 and that is not happening. Instead, all 3 ensembles will perform together on 3/17.

  • On THURSDAY 3/17 we present the MIKE DEWEY CONCERTO SHOWCASE , starting at 7:30pm in the PAC.

    • Students arrive 6:45-7:00pm. There is no coordinated warm-up.

    • Standard concert attire

    • Concert begins at 7:30

      • Starts with 3 pieces from Cardinal Orchestra

      • Then 3 from Sinfonia

      • Symphony Orchestra performs Polar Night by local composer Neb Macura

      • Our 3 Concerto-Aria soloists = Iggy Rosado, Jacob Mandelbrot & Mihir Manna, and Ellen Zhou

      • We finish with music from Lord of the Rings performed by all musician

MILWAUKEE BREWERS:

We have been asked to perform the national anthem for a Brewers game again this year! So, assuming labor relations improve, we will be heading to the evening game on SATURDAY 5/21 vs. the Washington Nationals. Some details, as we know them now:

  • Students will memorize the music

  • We can have 35-50 students perform, although I am looking to increase that

  • All students and families do need to purchase tickets for the game. Exact pricing coming soon.

  • Musicians will ride the bus over but could ride home with families.

  • I am working with the district to create a fan bus and some excitement and energy. Middleton Night at AmFam Park?

FUNDRAISING:

To help offset costs for the Brewers event and to help replace the Spring Supper fundraiser dinner that is no longer possible in our new building, we are putting together some fundraising this month.

  • Cheesecake: We are selling cheesecakes right now.

    • Orders are due Thursday this week.

    • All the information about the cakes themselves, and an order form, are found in THIS FOLDER .

    • Delivery is at the concert on 3/17

    • Either collect money ahead or upon delivery

      • Customers can write checks to MHS BOPA or to you directly (then you pay BOPA)

      • Collect ahead or upon delivery

      • Either way, money needs to be turned in with the order. No cheesecakes will be ordered without prepayment from you or your customers.

  • Coffee: We start with coffee next week--a nice pairing with the cheesecakes!

    • We will be getting 100 bags of coffee from JUST COFFEE, as well as their hot chocolate.

    • They are labeled with our orchestra logo!

    • Check our the order info in that same folder .

    • We will sell the bags themselves until they are gone and we can take additional orders beyond that starting 100.

    • The sale will end before Spring Break or when all bags are gone.

Thanks for continuing to support MHS Orchestras and all of its musical endeavors!

SK
